Weekend round up

Chelsea 0-0 Fulham (Sky Sports):

Chelsea fire blanks with Fulham at the bridge. John Terry suffers a fracture to his right cheekbone and has to be taken off. Didier Drogba gets sent off after two yellow cards. At Avram Grants first home match with “the blues”, he first receives an encouraging reception from the fans but towards the end the fans start singing “Jose Mourinho” to the tune of a classic Italian opera song. Reports in the Guardian of a minority of Chelsea supporters aiming anti-semitic abuse at Avram Grant.

West Ham 0-1 Arsenal (Acultured Left foot):

Gunners mix grit with flair and stay top of the table through a brilliant Van Persie header. Former Gunner Freddie Ljunberg puts the ball in the back of the net, but is judged wrongly to of been off side. Mark Noble clatters Alexander Hleb and the Belarus midfielder had to be taken off.

Manchester United 1-0 Birmingham city (Sky sports):

Manchester United continue their push to retain their title, but look far away from playing the attractive football they showed last season. Birmingham were unlucky not to get something out of this game. Christiano Ronaldo made sure his tyeam collected the three points.

Wigan 0-1 Liverpool (Skysports):

Wigan were perhaps unlucky not to get something out of the game as Marcus Bent puts ball in back of Liverpool net but is mistakingly ruled offside. They also get an interesting shout for a penalty as Wigan’s Julius Aghahowa was allegely brought down by Jamie Carragher. However Yossi Benayoun proves there is life after Andy Rosenthal (former Jewish Liverpool legend) as he comes on from the bench and with brilliant piece of skill bamboozles the Wigan defence to score the 75th minute winner.

Derby 1-1 Bolton (Sky sports):

Little Sammy Lee was happy Nicolas Anelka came up to save his blushes when he fired the equaliser for Bolton who had surrendered to an early opender from Derby courtesy of Kenny Miller. Bolton to be fair had the better of the chances but could not capitalize on them.

Manchester city 3-1 Newcastle United (Sky sports):

Who said Manchester City or any Sven Goran Eriksson team for that matter play cautious and boring football? Judging from this match these critics can be proved wrong. Obefemi Martins opened up the scoring for Newcastle which followed the customary back flip. Buut Newcastle were not able to exert their influence on the game. With quick and pacey players, Man City looked to break Newcastle with a brilliant counter attacking plan and Brazillian playmaker Elano and Martin Petrov were the archietects of this demolition.

Sunderland 1 -2 Blackburn Rovers (Sky sports):

The first half could of gone either way. In the second half David Bentley opened the scoring for Blackburn from good work from Roque Santa Cruz and then he got his name on the score sheet as well. Sunderland had tried to level the scores up but Grant Leadbitter’s late goal was only a consolation and the fight for a comeback.

Everton 2-0 Middlesbrough (Sky sports):

Joleyn Lescott showed why as well as being a quality defender, that he is exceptional at set pieces after opening his account for Everton with a header from a Mikel Arteta corner, making that 4 goals in ten appearances; not bad for a defender. Arteta was basically running the show with Mc Fadden up front showing brilliant skill and also woking his socks off. A brilliant cut back from Arteta found Steven Pienaar to make it 2-0 to Everton and put Middlesbroughs hopes of getting back into the game beyond their reach.

Tottenham Hotspur 4-4 Ason Villa (Sky sports):

An eight goal thriller on the day Tottenham were celebrating their 125th anniversary. Berbatov put Spurs ahead but blunders from Paul Robinson allowed Aston Villa to take a 3-1 lead with a double from Martin Laursen and 1 from Agbonlahor, and another from Craig Gardner. A fightback from Tottenham ensured when Chimbonda, Robbie Keane with a penalty and Younes Kaboul made Spurs rescue a point.
