Elderly Teddy Sheringham aims to retire at end of season.

The internet is awash with blogs, articles, pictures and news of Arsenal’s Eduardo Da Silva’s horrific injury. An important topic, which is understandably popular but overshadowed in terms of news by Theo Walcott’s brace and first goals in the premiership, and Tottenham getting one over on the “big four” in the Carling Cup Final. While our hearts lie with Eduardo, on a complete recovery and that his football career has not ended at the tender age of 25, let us remember the football players to whom have had a long and prosperous career playing what us Europeans call the beautiful game. West Ham/Man United and Tevez saga continues…

kia280906_228x225.jpg

As reported earlier in Goalpost Online, interest in Tevez from Manchester United and the debate over the ownership of the player has culminated in the possibility of a High court writ against West Ham United.

The Argentine striker wants to secure a move to United and there were pictures of him seen in Manchester. If a deal was to go through for the transfer of Tevez to Manchester United it would be highly contested who United should pay the fees to, as both West Ham and Kia Joorbchain (pictured) claim to own the player.

As this dispute has been going on since early July , yesterday the FA and Premier League asked FIFA to settle the dispute. However FIFA has recommended that the ‘Court of Arbitration ‘ (C.A.S.) deal with the matter, claiming that going through CAS will be:

“the fastest way to solve this impasse”

Joorabchin yesterday, has decided to take matters into his own hands  and issued a writ against West Ham in order to speed up the Argentine’s transfer to United before the August 31 deadline.

Ljunberg joins Hammers

ljungberg_head1.jpg

Freddie Ljunberg has gone to Upton Park today in a deal that could be worth up to £3 million and signed a contract that would keep him at the club for four years.

Ljunberg spent nine years with Arsenal, costing the club £3 million from Halmstads. In that time he played 325 times for the Gunners, scoring 72 goals along the way, and picking up 3 Premiership titles and four FA cups.

However for the last couple of seasons Ljunberg’s career at Arsenal were dampered by injuries and with the current run of new young players at the Emirates, the 30 year old Swedish captain was not gaurantied a regular place in the squad.

Speaking of the move Ljunberg declared:

“Two years ago, when i signed my last contract we talot about the future and about bringing great players to the club”

“Despite building the new stadium we wanted to stay top in England and do well in Europe. For me that didnt really happen. I stayed because i wanted to stay loyal to Arsenal. But when Henry left this summer i felt like all the unbeaten players (from Arsenals 2003/04 unbeaten side) had left. I wanted to be loyal but i felt like it was the right time.”

Ljunberg has become West Ham’s fith signing this summer, which has included major transfers such as Craig Bellamy, Scott Parker and Julien Faubert. Ljunberg is optimistic about his move to Upton Park and spoke of the signings the Hammers have made.

” I’m coming here because i want to build a great team. And why i want to join is because of Magnusson…He is willing to go to the transfer market to buuy top players and mix them with youth players. West Ham have a great academy”

Benayoun moves to Liverpool for £5 million

Benitez has continued his busy shopping spree with Liverpool by purchasing Yossi Benayoun from West Ham for 5 million. The Israeli captain has signed a four year contract worth around £50, 000 a week with the red half of Merseyside, after successfully completing his medical.

The move was completed after a Benayoun had refused to sign a new contract with the Hammers, after he had supposedly agreed to do so. Benitez has alwaays been a keen admirer of the Israli international since his days in Spain when he used to play for Racing Santander.

Benayoun has spent two years with the Hammers and enjoyed an impressive first season where he helped giude the team to the FA Cup final. He had initially turned down interest from Benitez before whilst at West Ham. However he felt marginalised in recent times with the Hammers, especially under Curbishley (although he had a decent run in the squad towards the end of the season), and endured a difficult time with the East End club while struggling to avoid relegation

Football gypsy signs for Hammers

West Ham have secured the services of Craig Bellamy in a £7.5 million deal with Liverpool.

bellamy30_468x488-1.jpg

The 27 year old Welsh Captain’s move to Upton Park was signified by Livepools purchase of Fernando Torres last week, which would of left him limited to first team chances; fourth behind Torres, Kuyt and Voronin.

“The club is looking to strengthen what is already a very good squad, and West Ham are renowned for their open and attacking football, so everything is perfect for me” Bellamy said of his move from Anfield “I could sit at Liverpool as a squad player all day long, picking up my money, playing every now and then, but I’d be cheating myself and my personality”

West Ham is the 7th club that Bellamy has played for and controversy has followed him at almost every club he has been at. He famously fell out with Graham Sousness whilst he as incharge of Newcastle, and Bobby Robson had described him as the “gobbiest” player he has ever worked with. Whilst at Liverpool last season he was alleged to have threatened co-team mate John Arne Riise with a golf club in a pre team break in Portugal.

This aside it is apparent why Curbishley is interested in the Welsh international. Bellamy’s qualities as a player shows that he is pacy, has great technique and the same fire that has characterised him by the media and former managers, will transfer well onto the pitch.

United chase tevez

Interest in Carlos Tevez has gathered momentum in Manchester with Fergusson claiming he wants Tevez signed for United within the next 48 hours.

Tevez, currently valued at around £20 million is currently playing for his country in the Copa America in South America but tht hasn’t stopped Ferguson sending United delegates there to secure the deal.

If talks do go ahead, United will have to deal his former club Corinthians in Brazil and with his handlers: the ‘Media Sports Investments’ who have said that the Argentine is only at Upton Park for a loan period; as opposed to West ham who he currently plays for. West ham’s chairman Eggert Magnusson however, maintains that West Ham owns the economical rights to the player.

Sheffield United’s appeal turned down

Sheffield united’s claim to order a new disciplinary commission to deal with West Ham’s illegal purchase of Carlos Tevez has been dismissed by the an arbitration panel on the grounds that they did not have the power to overide the decision made by an independent commision.

The resultant decision means that Sheffield United will begin life next season in the championship. They also had another claim dismissed; stating that the premiership should of forced West Ham to de-register Carlos Tevez.

West Ham disobeyed premiership rules by welcoming third party agreements when they signed Carlos Tevez and Javier Marscherano from Corinthians last summer. For their involvement in the illegal purchase of the Argentines, they were fined 5 million pounds by an independent commission. Sheffield United however felt that they should of been deducted points instead.

Sir Phillip Otton the chairman of the panel admitted that he would of deducted points had he lead the initial tribunal, but as it were he would not overturn the decision made by an independent disciplinary panel.

Speaking yesterday he said : “We have much sympathy for the aggrievances arriving from the decision and the manner it was arrived at. We would go so far as to say that the tribunal would in all probability hve reached a different conclusion and deducted points from West Ham.”

He went on to say: “The tribunal had to test the original decision on the basis of whether it was it was irrational or perverse when it was reached”

“We are obviously very dissapointed at the conclusion and, in particular the circumstances where the tribunal recognised that the outcome of the decision turned out to be, in the panels own words, unfortunate in the extreme and that Sheffield United had done nothing wrong to merit this outcome”
